Atlantic College
United World College of the Atlantic,
Wales, UK

a strong academic programme:

All students study for two years for the diploma of the International Baccalaureate, a demanding course which is the most widely recognised qualification for university entry worldwide.

This enables students to continue their studies in renowned institutions and to put into practice in later life what they have learnt at the College.

From the beginning, Atlantic College played an important role in the development of the IB, and is continuing to do so.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) requires students for the diploma to study six subjects, one from each of six groups, three at Higher Level (HL) and three at Standard Level (SL). The six groups are:
  1. Language A: the student's mother-tongue or best language, a literature course.
  2. Language B: a foreign language, at any level from a beginner's to a native speaker's.
  3. Individuals and Society.
  4. Natural Science.
  5. Mathematics: there are one HL and two SL courses, as well as SL Further Maths.
  6. Art, Music, etc, or another subject from one of the other groups.
In addition, the IB requires all students to take the Theory of Knowledge course, to submit an Extended Essay in one of their subjects, and to be involved in a service and activities programme.

The College has a well-stocked library, with a librarian to assist with enquiries; students are provided with the text books they need.

Experiments are an important part of all the science courses, and the College has the necessary laboratory facilities and trained technical staff.

Many students now bring their own lap-tops, but there are rooms located throughout the College where everyone can use computers connected to an internal network, and access the internet.
